I’ve seen and saved similar diy wall modern rustic art ideas to Pinterest (follow us) because I absolutely love this idea. We finally had a chance to try (our version) of the project and it turned out so cool. You can do it too! Here’s a list of supplies needed and basic instruction on how to create your own modern rustic wall art.
You’ll Need
First, I bought a box of scrap hardwoods from a local cabinet shop. I spent about $60 and still have enough wood to make several similar pieces. Then a trip to Lowes where they cut the plywood and trim to exact size.
Once I had all of my supplies together I spent awhile cutting and sanding then arranging the strips of hardwood. With a design in mind we assembled the frame by attaching the trim pieces to the back of the plywood. We predrilled holes and using the wood scews and glue built the framework. The screws were inserted from the front to hide under the design (strips of wood).
We applied a generous amount of wood glue to the hardwood pieces and plywood to join the design. A carpenter’s square helped to keep the design straight while working with a few pieces at a time then letting it dry one hour at least. The wood is a mixture of cedar (pink red color), maple and oak. I painted a few small scraps a blue to tie in with my living room.
